in Schull, Co Cork
The charming and traditional Irish seaside village of Schull lies in the midst of the majestic renowned hill and coastal scenery of West Cork just a ninety minute drive from Cork City with its international airport and low-cost airlines. Schull enjoys a cosmopolitan community with a quirky, artistic and dynamic spirit.
West Cork is a lifestyle as much as a location. Bustling farmers markets, gourmet foods, local festivals and a variety of exceptional artists and musicians bring vibrancy to this area of extraordinary natural beauty. Residents - a mix of locals and ‘blow-ins’ - are friendly and welcoming; the community is safe yet sophisticated. The weather is usually mild and temperate, occasionally wild and dramatic - always a source of conversation!

‘THE BREAK' at Schull
The six houses comprising 'The Break' enclave make a natural, yet informal, community that is available for support and friendship. The village is just a few minutes walk away with all our local shops and services. The larger local towns of Bantry and Skibbereen are both within 30 minutes drive. There's lots happening and lots to get involved in: check out the ‘Life in Schull' section of the site and follow some of the links.
Look down on Schull from the slopes of Mount Gabriel. The Break stands-out because it blends-in; a natural wood enclave, just off The Colla Road, within walking distance of nearly everything, yet tucked away amidst gardens, fields and trees.
Huge old beech trees and blossom laden young hawthorne hang over the entrance roadway; a short drive up then two larch clad cottages appear on your left. . . . Numbers 1 and 2 The Break. Beyond them numbers 4 and 5 can be glimpsed amongst the foliage behind the arboretum. Number 3 is hiding behind a wall of bamboo and number 6 is still out of sight tucked away around the corner at the top.
The asking price for each of
Numbers 4, 5 and 6 is just €300,000 (£250,000 approx)
Number 2 is €195,000 (£163,000 approx)
(Asking prices in 2008, before Ireland’s property crash, were 150% higher)
The houses: style and location
The exceptional quality of these houses is masked by their simple exterior. Designed with imagination, flair and style; craftsman-built to exacting standards and finishes; and enjoying individual character and features they offer delightful homes with low running costs.
The houses blend softly into the landscape, harmonizing around the mini arboretum. Each has its own parking, private spaces, and a “catching the sun” spot. In addition there are sunlit balconies, ornamental ponds, feature lighting, and many specialist joinery features particularly in houses 5 and 6. Decks and bay windows abound, light pipes and skylights maximize daylight, every window is double glazed, walls are heat and sound insulated a great deal of privacy is afforded inside and out. To live in one is a pleasure. . . so warm, comfy, elegant, bright and beautiful.
The location is special too; both in itself and for its easy connection to the wider community. The cul-de-sac was once a wood and many fine trees remain. From the houses there are views of Mount Gabriel, of fields and gentler hills too and glimpses of the sea. It is quiet, safe - gloriously peaceful. Everything is in easy walking distance yet nothing intrudes.
There is also the micro community of the Break itself. . . 6 beautiful and entirely unique houses . . .a variety of occupants. . . a friendly word, a glass of wine, neighbourly advice, help when needed. . . all on your doorstep.
